It can feel overwhelming when you realize your mum might need aged care support, but the good news is that getting an assessment is easier than you might think. The process can be done online in just a few steps, and this is the first step to getting her the help she needs. Here’s how you can get started:
How to Apply for an Aged Care Assessment Online
You can apply for an assessment for Mum online through My Aged Care in just three easy steps. The whole process takes about 15 to 20 minutes and can be done by you or on Mum’s behalf. You’ll need her Medicare card handy.
- Part A: Your Situation
- This step asks about Mum’s current situation and if she needs help with everyday tasks. It only takes about 5 minutes.
- Part B: Provide Your Details
- You’ll need to enter Mum’s personal details and have her Medicare card ready. If you’re applying on her behalf, you’ll also provide your information. This takes about 10 minutes.
- Part C: Arrange the Assessment
- You’ll provide the contact details of the person the assessment organization should call to confirm Mum’s needs and arrange the assessment. This takes about 5 minutes.

What Happens After You Apply?
- Contact Within 2-6 Weeks: An assessment organization will call you within 2-6 weeks to confirm Mum’s needs and schedule an in-person assessment at her home.
