How can I manage my Home Care Package preferences through my My Aged Care Online Account

Managing your Home Care Package preferences through your My Aged Care Online Account can help ensure you receive the right support when you need it. Whether you want to join or leave the Home Care National Priority System, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

What is the Current Care Approvals Section?

In your Online Account, the Current Care Approvals section allows you to:

  • View the types of care you are approved for, such as:
    • Residential Care
    • Home Care Packages

  • Indicate whether or not you want to receive a Home Care Package.

How to Access Current Care Approvals

  1. Log in to myGov:
Sign in to your myGov account and select the My Aged Care service tile.
  2. Navigate to Current Care Approvals:
From your homepage, click on the Current Care Approvals tile.

Adding Yourself to the National Priority System

If you want to be assigned a Home Care Package, follow these steps to ensure you’re in the National Priority System:

  1. Go to Current Care Approvals.
  2. Click on “Change Home Care Seeking Services Preference.”
  3. Select “Seeking Home Care Services.”
  4. Enter a Reason:
Provide a brief explanation of why you need home care services (e.g., support with daily tasks, health needs, or to remain independent at home).
  5. Click Save.

Confirmation: Once saved, you will be placed in the National Priority System and will be considered for a Home Care Package when one becomes available.

What to Expect After Joining the National Priority System

  • If you are waiting for a medium-priority Home Care Package, you’ll receive a notification about three months before your package assignment date.
  • Notifications will be sent:
    • By mail and/or
    • To your Online Account under the Documents section.
    • To your representative if they have not opted out of notifications.

Removing Yourself from the National Priority System

If you decide you no longer need a Home Care Package, here’s how to remove yourself:

  1. Go to Current Care Approvals.
  2. Click on “Change Home Care Seeking Services Preference.”
  3. Select “Not Seeking Home Care Services.”
  4. Enter a Reason:
Briefly explain why you no longer want home care services (e.g., your needs have changed, or you have found alternative support).
  5. Click Save.

Note: Removing yourself means you will not be considered for a Home Care Package. If you change your mind later, you will need to reapply and may face waiting times.
